Campus ChampionArnold Rist has always been there for SUNY Cortland. The 1947 graduate was on campus Nov. 11 to share with today’s Cortland history students his firsthand experience of liberating Nazi death camps during WWII. He offered to play Taps and Reveille at the Veterans Day ceremony in Old Main. Over the years, he has funded scholar-ships, served on the Alumni Board and donated wheelchairs to our adapted physical education classes. Far from the public eye by design and never accepting a cent in return, he has tutored, counseled and actually driven students from Rockland County to SUNY Cortland. He’s a compassionate octogenarian who remains forever young at heart. He has a heart of gold and the heart of a champion. Monday, Dec. 6Last day for in-class examinations.
