Campus Champion

Three founders of the William H. Parks Family Center for Environmental and Outdoor Education at Hoxie Gorge returned July 11 to celebrate with alumni and campus members its golden anniversary and the dedication of a new arboretum. From the left, Eugene Waldbauer and John A. Gustafson, emeriti biological sciences professors, and George L. McDermott, distinguished service professor emeritus of geography, accepted the College’s gratitude for acquiring the farm tract, restoring it to nature and steering its early mission. The late Professor Harlan “Gold” Metcalf, recreation and leisure studies, also created Hoxie Gorge, which accommodates roughly 1,000 student visits annually.

Alumni Reunion 2015 was a time for making new friends and reconnecting with those from earlier days. Classmates Susan Keith Rutledge ’75 and Michael Bond ’75 greeted one another at the Alumni House welcome reception, one of many gatherings that were held from July 9 through 12. In all, more than 600 alumni and friends took part in activities that reconnected them to the campus and their SUNY Cortland experience.
