Campus Champion

Bekeh Ukelina, history and Africana studies professor, is balancing his research trip to Nigeria while coordinating activities for SUNY Cortland’s Women’s History Month. He believes that women possess a quiet power rarely celebrated and it’s the strength of the women in his life that shaped who he is. The Center for Gender and Intercultural Studies director, author and member of world heritage site task forces often finds himself in leadership roles. “Bringing people together for a common cause fuels my passion. I believe the essence of leadership is solving problems through simple and collaborative solutions, and that is what I always try to do.”
