Students and families traveling to campus for the fall semester should be prepared to encounter significant road construction in the city of Cortland.
Travelers who use Interstate 81 at Exit 11 to arrive in Cortland (Route 13, Cortland/Ithaca) — the exit near many fast-food restaurants including Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts — will notice road work closing Route 13/Clinton Avenue, a commonly used route to campus.
Exit 11, which is used primarily by vehicles traveling from the south, is still open with detour route signs directing traffic to the other end of Clinton Avenue, where one can rejoin the most common route. Expect delays.
Motorists may wish to consider an alternative I-81 exit.
Vehicles traveling north from New York City or other areas to the south of Cortland may want to use Exit 10 and take Route 11 into the city, where it turns into Port Watson Street, and then Tompkins Street.
Vehicles traveling south on I-81 from areas north of Cortland may take Exit 12 and use Route 281 and Groton Avenue to go to campus.
For students moving in to residence halls in the middle of campus, this Google Maps link will help reach the vicinity of their travel destination. Traffic will follow a one-way route from Prospect Terrace to Neubig Road on move-in days; vehicles will not be allowed to enter campus at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Neubig Road.
A map with the detour route from Exit 11 also is provided below.
