Cortland Cupboard remains open during COVID-19 Crisis

04/21/2020

The following message about continued service by the SUNY Cortland Cupboard is being sent on behalf of the SUNY Cortland Cupboard Board of Directors:

The threat of COVID-19 has created many hardships for SUNY Cortland students. Hunger shouldn’t be among them.

During the coronavirus outbreak, the SUNY Cortland Cupboard will remain open for students in need of non-perishable foods and personal hygiene items at no cost, although with limited hours and new rules to ensure social distancing. The Cupboard is located at the Interfaith Center, 7 Calvert St., at the corner of Prospect Street, across from Dowd Fine Arts Center.

As a general reminder, there is no application required to access the Cupboard. Although few students are currently living on campus, many continue to live in off-campus apartments in Cortland.

Temporary Hours (March 18 – May 15)

  • Mondays, Noon – 1 p.m.
  • Wednesdays, Noon – 1 p.m.
  • Thursdays, 3 – 4 p.m.

Note: Dates are subject to change.

Temporary Rules

Please note the following temporary policy changes in order to help us maintain a safe and healthy environment.

  • Students will be asked to use hand sanitizer (provided) or wash their hands before collecting their items.
  • Only one person will be allowed into the Cupboard at a time, although more than one guest can be in the room outside the Cupboard.
  • A student cannot take more than two (2) of one kind of any item per day. Students may take, for example, two cans of soup, plus one or two boxes of cereal and so on.
  • Students who are exhibiting a cough, fever, shortness of breath, etc. will not be allowed to enter the Cupboard. Instead, they should contact cortland.cupboard@cortland.edu for alternative pick-up options.
  • Students who cannot visit the Cupboard during the new hours should contact cortland.cupboard@cortland.edu to request an appointment – at least 24-hour notice is required.
