Dear faculty and staff,
Following a comprehensive national search, SUNY Cortland selected April Thompson as its next chief of staff. April will start on Thursday, Sept. 1.
April comes to Cortland having most recently served as the vice president of student life and dean of students at Allegheny College. Her many accomplishments at Allegheny included leading vital offices such as residential life, counseling and health, public safety, student conduct, institutional crisis management and incident command. April’s energy, vision and innovation will be important to SUNY Cortland’s continued progress in the years to come.
Prior to her time at Allegheny, April served as associate vice president and dean of students at Binghamton University from 2012 to 2018 and worked in campus life in a variety of capacities at Dartmouth College from 2001 to 2012. April is a 1995 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a degree in zoology and she earned a master’s in higher education leadership from Arkansas in 1996. She is currently working on her dissertation toward a Ph.D. in community and public affairs/public administration from Binghamton University.
I would like to thank the search committee for their expeditious and thorough work through this process. I would also like to thank all the faculty and staff who participated in the search.
Please join me in welcoming April to SUNY Cortland.
All the best,
Erik J. Bitterbaum
President
