President shares student conduct policies

01/28/2021

Dear students,

With the weekend approaching, I want to remind you about expectations for your conduct in the semester ahead. COVID-19 has forced us to change the ways we study, work and live together. Our sacrifices must continue through the spring.

Please be aware the SUNY system has developed a Uniform Sanctioning Policy. These policies are strong and they are meant to prevent the spread of a deadly virus. You must live up to these expectations for the health and safety of all members of the campus community.

I want to highlight some key components:

  • Off-campus gatherings are limited to 10 people. Attending a gathering of more than 10 people will result in restriction from campus. Hosting a gathering of more than 10 people will result in a minimum one calendar year suspension.

  • On-campus gatherings will follow posted capacity limits for common spaces. Additionally, you may only enter the residence hall you live in. One guest per room is allowed and the guest must live in the same residence hall. Violations will result in restriction from campus, including residence hall suspension.

  • Face coverings must be worn over your mouth and nose at all times on campus and off, unless you are eating in a dining area, alone in your room or with the people assigned to that space or on your lease. Repeated violations will result in probation at minimum.

  • Quarantine/isolation protocol requires you to follow all directions if you are instructed to quarantine or isolate. Failure to do so will result in restriction from campus. Intentional violations from COVID-positive individuals will result in a minimum suspension of one calendar year.

I want you to have a safe and successful semester without any major disruptions or disciplinary measures. Please continue to be good citizens both on and off campus. If you have questions about expectations, you can contact the Student Conduct Office or your residence hall staff. Full details on SUNY Cortland’s student conduct policies are available online

Please also remember that important resources related to move-in and testing are available through the COVID-19 tab in myRedDragon and the Spring 2021 Guide.

I hope that you have a safe and enjoyable weekend and an excellent start to your classes next week.

All the best,

Erik J. Bitterbaum
President
