It’s been around forever, and now it’s new.
During the Cortaca Jug football game in Yankee Stadium Nov. 12, SUNY Cortland unveiled a new spirit mark that celebrates the university with the unofficial name alumni and students have used for years: C-State.
You can see the new spirit mark at the end of one of the SUNY Cortland videos that played on the stadium’s large video screen before more than 40,000 people.
It’s a graphic meant for those who have stood in the stands, walked our halls and championed what it is to be a Red Dragon. It’s for members of the diverse, loud and caring family that is SUNY Cortland.
It is not a name change. SUNY Cortland remains the primary name of the university and should be used to identify all of its offices and departments, its programs and its related organizations and clubs. All current naming and branding rules and guidelines remain in effect. C-State will not replace SUNY Cortland in any official university communications or written material.
Putting it simply, to the outside world, we are SUNY Cortland. However, Red Dragons now have a mark that can be used informally to express school spirit.
Guidelines for using the mark are being developed, and will be shared early in 2023, along with the entire family of spirit mark designs.
