I have walked in Commencement. Does that mean I have "graduated"?
Commencement is a ceremonial recognition of your achievements, where the campus community comes together with families to celebrate a major milestone in your life.
Graduation (or degree conferral, officially) is a student-initiated process consisting of submitting an Application for Degree Conferral, completing all academic requirements for your degree — which are verified and approved by your advisor and Dean's Office — and settling all obligations to the university. The administrative process of degree conferral will indicate your official date of graduation.
Participation in Commencement does not necessarily mean one has graduated or has had their degree conferred.
